has anyone ever had this happen. for some reason my passenger side headlight dimmed out. i just thought the light burned out , but after i changed out the bulbs i got the same problem.it comes on but it is very dim, the driver side is fine. so I don't know whats up with it.

 

The first thing i would check are the grounds.

 

The headlight ground would not affect one light, on a Toyota anyway. Why? Only one ground (common to both sides) and that is back at the headlight combo switch on the steering column.


Rather, check the headlight fuses, there is one per side up front:

Fuse may not be fully blown, or it may simply have an oxidized connection there.

 

i thought toyota shared a common +12v not common ground???? the headlight are switched ground not switched positive right?

 

Yes, there is a common 12 volt source, but there is one common (but switched between low and high beam) ground connection as well. Basically the low and high beam wires run back to the combo/dimmer switch, through contacts there and ultimately down to a single ground point inside the cab (screw into the floor sheet metal).

There is not a separate ground connection per headlight as is common on US and European vehicles.

 

ok, that makes more sense to me. That whole setup threw me off when I did the harness upgrade on it.

 

yah , I checked the fuse, it did blow , but it has blown 3 10a fuses since then. so I put a 15a in for the time being. I know , I'm not supposed to do that. I think I might be overloading that fuse , I plugged my fog lights power wire in to it. but that was like 2 years ago and i didn't have any problems till last week.
