Ok so i drove my truck about 50 miles then shut it off and then started it and it was idleing about 500 maybe a touch less. Before i shut i off it was idleing at 800, what would cause the idle to drop like that?

 

Its a 22re with a manual tranny btw

 

Hey, my truck did the same thing. It also didn't idle right some times. It turned out to be a bad injector. The injector would fire most of the time, but would sometimes not fire 100%. When you're truck has the low idle and is running, remove the spark plug wires one at a time to see if there may be something going on there. If you unplug one and the engine idle doesn't change (or doesn't change much), it will be a good indication.

the other thing is that maybe your throttle body butterfly is sticking shut.

 

There is a small O ring on the idle adjustment screw. It gets harder over time due to heat and age. It'll allow the screw to move around while you drive. Had this happen on mine once, changed out the O ring and it was all good.

 

Ok well i didn't check anything because it stopped doing it then today sitting at a light it was idleing at 2k then i put a load on it by letting out the clutch and it dropped down to about 800, but now it's steady idleing around 1k and sometimes staying at 1.5k, wtf

 

I have the exact same problem as you. Truck runs great, warms up, but once in a while sitting at a stop light she idles at 500-600. Only thing I've changed in a few months is a thermostat.

 

How old is your fuel filter? My truck idled like that right when I bought it. Changed the fuel filter, cleaned out my throttle body and the idle shot up to 2,000. Had the throttle screw problem also. Now I'm idling @ 750-800 with no problems.

 

I have the same issue out of my 3.4. On start up, it idles proper, but once warm, it runs around 450-500 rpm. I have tried to adjust the throttle cable and it resumes the same idle. I am using an auto ECU with a manual trans. It has recently just started to miss, and the cel is for a cylinder misfire on all 6. sorry for hijack, just sounds like it might be similar issue.

 

I havn't touched the filter or the throttle body cause i just got this truck so idk how old the filter is but i'll look at it. I guess i'll be troubleshooting it as i work on it tomorrow

 

did no one even realize that Junkers posted in this thread? because his information seems to be EXTREMELY simple and CHEAP to fix..so i'd DO THAT first, then do other stuff....



you ALWAYS start simple if you do not know what the problem is.

 

Do not adjust the throttle cable to try to fix this. The throttle cable is set using two people. One steps on the gas and the other makes sure the throttle is opening all the way. If not then adjust the slack out so that it is. Never adjust idle with the throttle cable. I repeat never adjust idle with the throttle cable.

 

I would think its the coolant temp sensor. I gets confused sometimes.

 

ok i looked today and where to heck is the fuel filter i can't find it. the air filter is new.

 

It's below the intake plenum. If you look across the top of the tire from the passengers side you'll see it up above the starter. I still think it'd be easier to check/replace that O ring first though.

 

My truck does this from time to time. When it's warm and you restart, the RPMs are very low. Usually if I just tap the gas it'll snap out of it and idle normal. I've also had issues with the idle screw vibrating into different positions, causing wacky idle speeds. Since you said now the truck idles high, I'd check the idle screw and possibly change the oring and set it properly. Not a bad idea to clean the intake as well, I've had a (very) dirty intake cause issues as well but mainly causing the butterfly to "stick" slightly
