84-85 Trucks & 4Runners 2nd gen pickups and 1st gen 4Runners with solid front axles

What will 33s, 4.88, and a 32/36 weber get me?

What will 33s, 4.88, and a 32/36 weber get me?

Okay so i am new to Toyotas, i just bought a non modifided 1984 ext cab 4x4 truck ($2000) with bad tranny, first i would like to know was that a good deal or not? i thought it was. anyways i would like to know if i re gear to 4.88 and put some 33/1250/15, 32/36 weber carb, and a manifold back 2" exhaust with out cat and a cheap muffler will i still mantain good mpg and do you have any sugestions, this will be a daily driver/ weekend warrior so it will be seeing highway speeds 55-65, but also mud and trails. thank you and sorry for long post

My guess is probably 20 mpg highway and maybe 16 city if you drive nice. Mileage shouldn't drop too drastically.

You paid 2000 dollars for it with a bad transmission ?, if so, you paid to much. You should have paid in the range of 1200-1500 dollars. Other than a bad transmission, is the truck in good shape ?. Do you know what`s wrong with the transmission ?.

$600 tops around here. We call that a "parts truck"

I paid that for my 99 Ext Cab Tacoma project and got a helluva lot more truck with 4.10s, 3.4, fuel injection and oem e locker.

I'm not sure how available yotas are around you but around here that baby could go for 2K easily assuming it was mostly rust free.

I don't know where you live but I would like to make my next yota purchase there! Most 81-85s are like 1500-8000 around here in western washington.

Here in the rust belt, that would have been a decent good deal if it is rust free. You should have tried to talk him down to $1500 though
