Looking for advice on buying a truck

I'm looking at some used yotas right now, 79-83 models

anyone have advice on what I should watch out for?

any known issues / signs of a lemon

thanks

My '87 has IFS and I'm looking to get a more trail worthy rig

if its a private seller ive always took note at the person selling the car or truck, you can get a good idea how it was treated. old people with a book of records is always the jackpot! haha

Obviously rust is the key thing to look for here. Under the frame, and in the corners of the cab and in the wheel wells are the places it tends to gather.

Personally I tend to stay away from ones that say and show you the oil was recently changed and the oil is as clean as a whistle. Too many people do this to mask either a head gasket issue or in our case a timing chain failure as well.
