Blown HG. worth it to fix or sell?

1993 runner, auto, 3vze, 180,000 miles, blew the head gasket. its at the mechanic's right now waiting for them to give me a quote on it so depending on how much it costs, i dunno if i wanna do it.

my question is, what would it be worth if i were to sell it as is?

its in good condition, heres a picture.

Where is Carnation? Me and a friend can get it done in no time for minimal expense if you are close to the NJ/PA border.

Check out Craigslist: you're likely to see plenty of vehicles with "Needs new headgasket. Only costs a couple hundred, but I just haven't had the time." How much would you pay for an 18yr-old pig-in-a-poke?

Lots of folks on this forum (myself included) have done more major repairs on even older vehicles, but they knew what they were starting with, and weren't paying themselves $90/hour. Yours is a very nice looking truck, fixing it yourself is likely to be very rewarding.

But if you're paying a regular mechanic to do it for you, it will be hard to justify. And if you don't fix it, don't expect to get more than a few hundred, if you can find a buyer at all.

Good luck!

If u sell it your gunna lose money. If you let the shop do it your gunna lose money. Are you proficient with hand tools? There are many write ups on here. Have you thought about trying it yourself?

really all depends what all the truck is worth to you.

In that case try and do it yourself, it's not that hard.

this is just IMO but that is a very clean 4Runner "at least that side is" .. and if the interior
is the same shape I would never be ashamed to drive it around town..

I would get it fixed ...

If the Shop you have it at is over 1500$ on the repairs ... and you are handy with tools...

Try doing it your self ... nuthing to loose (I had the luxury of having a Mechanic friend do
mine and rebuilt the heads all for under 550$ parts and labor)

or
There is a Shop in Co Springs that I have heard good things about and they can ship a whole
long block with timing, oil pump and gasket set.. for like 1500$ +core charge and shipping..

my opinion? Let the mechanic do it. yes its going to be costly, but you now have a reliable vehicle again and its under warranty.

I just did one at the end of last year, its not that hard. If a shop does it,it will cost around 2000 to 2500. If you do it it will be a couple hundred dollars for parts.
