Found an 83 Supra 5M-GE at the pull yard the other week

grabbed the AFM and the rubber connector that went to the outlet. Next I found a new looking AEM 3" cone filter off a big truck. I was lucky as it looked brand new. total cost, 40$

Swapped my 94 22RE AFM rotor dial and circuit board into it. fairly simple, just pull the old one and the rotor dial, put the new in. I had to bend a pin on the rotor to contact the fuel pump shutoff contact. Ill take a pic later. make sure to bend the rotor pin and not the contact pin.

also-
you might have to adjust the afm dial on the spring tension. I had to lean it 4 clicks.

went to hardware store
ABS pipe parts-

-3" pipe 17" long
-3" 90deg male to female
-3" rubber connector
-3" to 2" rubber adaptor
- 5 big hose clamps

next

3" to 2" on TB. its a tight fit, use oil or heat in hot water

17" pipe
3" connector, with:
the original outlet rubber connector from the supra afm, cut it to 3/4" to use as a gasket underneath the 3" hardware store connector on the afm outlet.
then the 3" cone filter. its a very tight fit. use boiling water to expand the rubber to get it on the afm.

then

plug the PAIR valve and yank the can on the TB. the pair valve doesn't affect performance, so I made it go bye bye.


then

hose clamp everything down, check its not rubbing the rad hose.
seal up the afm cover
done.

I have a full exhaust, I def feel more power and throttle response, for $50 in parts. without opening the exhaust I don't think the afm would help, though IMO. don't expect a whole lot, but it is def worth it. I can pull most hills in 4th gear with 35s where before I lost speed.

I wasn't aware the 83' Supra AFM worked. I thought it was only the 82' Supra AFM.

 

82 is plug n play, 83-85 is a board swap
