Gas gauge how do I fix? 96 runner

Ok I did a search and you guys seem to already know about this but I didn't see what the fix is besides take it too the dealer. Well my 96 is way out of warrenty. So What is it that is broke?

Mine likes to read full tank all the time, it works every so often but is getting worse.

I know just reset the trip but I like when things work right

Is it a sending unit?

mine does the same thing, sorta. it wont go past 3/4 of a tank, and then it works properly past that, so its like a 1/4 tank off all the time. i dont know what to do, ive tried manually moving it up there after i filled up, but it just falls back down. good luck, i hope u find a fix

I believe the answer was crytstalization on the sending unit (not 100% sure tho).
This would require replacement of that part as well to fix.

You can check the signal from the sending unit and that will tell you if it is the guage or the sending unit.
So if the signal is ok from the sender, then guage is defective.
Any good manual will give you the value to test for.

Hey is there a way to get some pics of what the runner looks like now? I know you said you made a few changes, so I'd like to see the new green beast.

I havn't done too much to it yet.

I have done some clean up and what not I think I peeled off 10lbs of grease and sludge off the underside I think it's some kinda winter coating for back east?
I also pulled all the seats and carpet out to run all the exposed wires thru plastic tubing. Moved some of that stuff around.
I put some square sliders on it and a front skid plate I also made this bumper. I'll try to attach a picture but I don't know if it will work.

the 1st one worked, and wow! What a difference just a new front bumper, a new set of skids, and some sliders can make!!

Where exactly in SoCal are you located? Because I'll be in Hunnington Beach from the 19th-2nd and would like to stop by your shop if possible.
