Hello my fellow toyota bretheren. I have an 86 Pickup sr5 x-cab that I puchased about a year ago. Since then, I have rebuilt the engine, axels, transfer case, transmission and pretty much anything else that could be replaced was. I have slapped about 5 gallons of bondo on it and hit it with some fresh white paint. Added a detroit locker up front here while back.

Now its time for some upgrades. Ive intrested myself in the Gen 2 caddy kit from Total Chaos. My question is, can it be garage installed? I have all the necessary tools accept a hydraulic lift. Also, the kit says you need fiberglass flares but I have seen several photos of 86+ yotas with said suspension and no flares.........thoughts?

 

Pretty sure it can be garage installed IF you have the necessary tools. Also the flares arent really needed unless the state you live in has certain requirements to cover the tires, which most do.

 

Thanks man, I live in Alabama, which i think has absolutley no lift laws or etc.

I have looked into King coil over shocks to go with the kit, I cannot post link obviously, but, the price, Is it for two shocks?

 

Nope, the prices are for just one shock. Kings are very pricey but are well well worth it. Excellent customer service!...are making a full blown prerunner or do you just want some more travel up front?

 

Planning on doing a full blown prerunner.....I want to retain my 4wd as I like to do a little wheeling as well.

Also, any reccomendations for rear suspension?

Check out FOA shocks www.f-o-a.com, if you're looking to save a few bucks. There's quite a few folks on www.dezertrangers.com who run these and are happy with them.

 

whats up guys. about that gen 2 kit ur asking about. it can be garage installed. all u need is simple wrenches might need to cut the controls off if they are hard to unbolt and u need to know how to be able to put everything back together. on top of the install u will now need new shock hoops to accomedate the coil over shock. the best way to go if ur going to do it urself is to order the tc prefabbed shock hoop. its about 300 buck but its worth it. I have this kit and i ran it with no glass for about a month and the tires do not pop out a whole lot. great kit! oh and there are technical articles on the install at traillesstraveled.com

I started a thread on long traveling my 92 with the GEN II kit.

So far what you will need are

T100 axles for the front to retain 4WD
2 Coil overs (can't go wrong with KING or FOX)
2 shock hoops to mount the coilovers
GEN II kit

For the rear I asked about that on my thread but have yet to recieve a response. I was thinking about deavers but then found out you need to custom mount that as it is not bolt on then i found deaver has a mini pack which is like an add a leaf.

 

King coil overs in the front. I paid about 560 for each the shock is in the wrong spot im getting the work redone this week and the other picture is a tc kit compared to stock

the bumper I got it made by a buddy of mine. but if you wanna buy one that is bolt on you can bo to bajabumpers.com if you have any more ??? ask away iv'e been looking at alot of this stuff for a few years. also if you dont wanna go through total chaos for the kit there is also Jdfabrication that makes kits for these truck and esb fabrications

 

XWOPXBrutal - what size tires are those? They look like 33x12.50s?

At the moment, it's looking like Kartek has the best $$, and they also apparently have spec'd kits including equivalent rears. Cha-ching...
