So I'm getting my 1990 Ext cab 4x4 pickup painted this spring and am looking for ideas on what color to go with. Not looking for answers like "blue" or "red" but rather looking for specific colors with names or paint codes

This is a frame off resto that will be my daily driver. Not going to be offroading it much so I'm wanting to go with something that looks great on these trucks

So far I'm leaning towards Toyota 926 Cool Steel Metalic. I had a Taco painted this color and really liked it. It suited the Taco but I'm not sure how it would look on the 89-94s.

Anyone have any ideas on what colors look best on these trucks or better yet, have any pics?

 

i don't have paint codes, and custom paint jobs are difficult to pull off so they don't look cheesy IMO. You can't go wrong with a stock color or paint scheme, it will always give it a classic look. Honestly, i like paint jobs that hearken to an older stock paint scheme you would have found on a previous generation IMO. And if you do try to mimic an older paint scheme, you can always get vinyl cut to complete the stock look.
The 3rd gen truck you have is very rounded and doesn't have the hard Taco lines in the body work(but you know this). I like the 3rd gen trucks better then the other generations. Lately i have really been into the matte/flat color finishes, it shows the lines of the body better as i feel that the hi-gloss modern finishes loose those lines because of the highly reflective clear coat. This is why i painted my Monster flat orange(stock color, not stock finish). Flat metallic would be slick, add some striping the SR5 of your vintage would have...i think that would be slick.

its on the new jettas like the 09s and 2010s its like salsa metalic its the best haha

 

Id say go with huggar or chevy orange or john deere green

IF YOU HAVEN'T BEEN...

go to toyotareference.com and see what was used in each year. You'll see what was stock for your year truck, as well as future models like the 926 which was used on 98 Tacos only.

My two favorite colors from the mid 90s Tacos are Horizon Blue Metallic (8N1) and Mystic Purple Mica (938). If you hover over the paint names listed on that site, it links to galleries of each color. It's a very thorough site for paint info of any Toyota.
