As title says, the rear cam plugs are leaking on my motor. Well, just the right side but I might as well do both. I have searched to no avail. I am able to source the plugs from the dealer in town but am wondering what is involved in replacing them. Do I just remove the caps and swap plugs? Any FIPG involved? There arent thrust washers behind there are there? So you know what I am referring to see this thread

No thrust washers. FIPG/RTV not called for, or required. They're already rubberized for a proper seal. Use of FIPG/RTV on them could potentially clog/plug the oil passages that keep the ends of the camshafts/camshaft bearings lubed. I wouldn't fool with it personally.

The FIPG/RTV is only required for where the corners of the valve cover gaskets contact the head, and the outer edges and underside grooves of the end camshaft bearing caps(no.1 & no.5). It's not to be applied to the rear cam seals. Careful study of the FSM pages on cylinder head assembly(link above)will reveal that to be true.

I used a TINY layer of FIPG on my for good measure. Makes it a PITA to get off, but they WILL NOT leak~

 

I actually did the same. I figured if I didnt get any in the cup area I wouldnt have a problem.

Figured out why it was leaking too. I guess someone had been in there before for something and didnt put any FIPG on the rear cam caps. None. Those rubber plugs can only hold so much I guess!

 

Do the valve covers have to be pulled to replace these?

Not sure if they HAVE to be pulled, but it will be much easier if you do. Not sure how you will reach anything back there without doing it.
