Removed ABS sensor, now check engine light?

i recently clipped the wire going to the rear diff for the antilock brakes.i dont need it because my new 3rd member does not have a tone ring sensor on it.it has never thrown a warning lite on either.(the 3rd has been in for over 3 yrs now)now that i have clipped the wire the antilock brake lite is on.i tried just twisting the wires together but it didnt help.i plan on just pulling the bulb out of the dash but randomly now the check eng lite comes on too.im suspecting the sensor AFTER the cat converter because i just had some exhaust work done and they said that this sensor was in bad shape.just before the exhaust work i replaced the oxygen sensor before the cat and the check engine lite went off.
could the abs problem be throwing the check eng lite?would the sensor after the cat be throwing the check eng lite?
thanks

abs light should be the only light as far as the abs pigtail is concerned. check engine light usually concerns emissions and actual 'engine' codes i.e. o2 censor, etc.

It would be a lot easier to tell if you knew what CEL code was being thrown. Have you tried jumpering and reading the code?
