Where do ground wires typically go?

Where do ground wires typically go?
Just wondering where a couple of ground wires get fastened....
1- Where does the one that comes off the negative post on the battery typically go?
2- Where does the ground wire that is at the tail end of the wiring harness get attached?
Right now, the one coming off the battery is bolted to the first bolt on the throttle boddy, I think it would do better somewhere on the block. The second on is just sittin there cause it doesnt reach the block very easily, was thinking about attaching it to one of the EGR bolts.
