97' 4Runner SR5 Rough Idle, Bad Exhaust Smell

My SR5 started idling very rough yesterday and doesn't sound like it's firing on all the cylinders. Also, the exhaust smells really bad. It doesn't really seem like it wants to die, and it hasn't died yet on it's own. One of my friends thinks it might be the catalytic converter, but I don't know. I put some Fuel System/Fuel Injector cleaner in it but it doesn't seem to have fixed anything. The check engine light is on too.

I think I am going to take it to a mechanic today to see if they can tell me anything specific about the Check Engine light. Any knowledge on what my problem is? If it's something I can fix myself I'd much rather save the money and gain the experience doing it myself. I own a Chilton manual for it. I tried searching the forums but didn't find anything that fit my exact issue.

Waiting on the mechanic to get back from lunch with his scanner for 20 bucks.

Engine is 5VZ-FE.

Well, I just got done with the mechanic. The code indicated #4 wasn't firing. He took a look and found a hole in the boot of the #4 spark plug wire. He said the hole is causing #4 to flood out and misfire. A new set of plugs and wires should take care of the issue.

Does this sound like a possible solution?

sounds reasonable, if there is to much resistants in the plug wires it could cause a miss.

Yea, thank you! I'll reply when I got the new plugs/wires installed and let you know how it turned out.
