Whats your favorite way to clean parts?

Getting ready to do the 88 timing chain and cam/rockers.....

Was wondering if anyone has a favorite or secret degreaser or method of cleaning parts up nicely.

I had a parts washer with bad arse solvent in it at one time...but it burned my hands and would eat anything rubber. Plus it was 10 gallons of flamable liquids in my garage...where I smoke.

No...Im not using the dishwasher...not unless I want to be single.

Ive used anything and everything....even a power washer...but it has a cracked pressure manifold...

So anyone got and secret sauce they swear by?

yes metal only...don't get it on the rubber or it will definitely eat it away..

i've also found that high pressure water after a soaking with some ordinary Engine Cleaner works too! (high pressure meaning 2400PSI out of my pressure washer.)

the best crap I have ever used to clean something is the CRC Lectra-Motive Electrical parts cleaner. You can get it in cans or a 1 gallon bottole. It's a little pricey, but it's the best degreaser I have ever used. P.S. You don't have to just use this stuff on electrical parts. If you seen what my alternator looked like before and after using this on it, it would make you a believer.

And believe it or not I have also had luck with using the Autozone brand degreaser as well.

Another thing that works is a very concentrated dawn dish liquid/water mix. But that's messy. And not very rubber friendly.

I don`t have a parts washer, so most of the time i buy a few cans of carb cleaner and use that.

Depends what it is I have used the oven cleaner for really baked on crud.

I use the pressure washer if that is able to be used with out making a mess.

I have also used Kano Labs Floway with good results.

Most often I use a wire brush wheel rated for high rpm on a die grinder.

I have also used the Gum cutter Brake clean whatever was handy

buy the Harbor Freight brand orange cleaner called "orange goop".....works great on cleaning your hands and leaves no residue when cleaning parts......able to paint them right after rinsing

Ha. I used my die grinder with a wire cup to clean my valve cover last night. Washed it with some brake cleaner to bust the oil off then got the crusty stuff with the wire cup. Went quick.

Gasoline works off course.

Invest in a parts washer with the mineral spirits parts washer juice. Sit and soak makes life easy. The spray nozzle or the a toothbrush gets most stuff off.

gojo and like brands are good for cleaning rubber, use is to clean air hoses in the shop. brake parts cleaner works ok for a quick clean, though not the best. mineral spirits by far is my favorite so far. i like the oven cleaner idea for home, i will have to try that. just get you a cheep dishwasher for your garage!

I trick I learned from an old bicycle mechanic to clean rusty/greasy parts is to let them soak in diesel.

Have your cousin that is unable to work on his own truck clean the parts.

Kerosene works very well to cut grease, but will leave a residue that needs to be cleaned off. Naturally, this works similarly to diesel but is less stinky.
