will the swap fit without running a body lift on a 94 4runner? i have a rebuilt 5.0 sitting in my shop just wasting away so mite as well use it...

 

Anything will fit without a body lift, but you will most likely have to pound the hell out of the firewall and add a hood scoop. 2-3 inch body lift would really help eliminate alot of that problem.

Its even worse on an ifs rig because you cant mount the motor very low.

 

by the time i do the swap it will be SAS'D so im sure that will free up some room but i wasnt sure about the exhaust because some say it is really hard without the body lift. i guess if i have to i can find another motor that i dont need a body lift with but would rather run the 5.0 since i already have it and its fully rebuilt.

 

Its not so much about clearance under the hood or suspension as it is around the transmission. With out the body lift you will likely have to cut the trans tunnel and raise it up. I have a 3" body lift and only have about an inch or so clearance at the topp of the bellhousing

 

i need help. what would be the best trans to go with? 1989 truck 4x4. i have a t5 , c4, and the one that bolted up 22re. i know i will need adaptors regardless. i tought i had it figured to use the c4. but some are saying that the yota 5spd sould be fine. i got choices just want to make the rite one. its a stout 289 that im dropping in the truck. i got fmx also laying around.

 

I would go with at least a 2" body lift. Clearance between the oil pan and differential could be an issue too, in addition to those listed above.

 

I did mine without a body lift. Used an iron core w48 out of mid 80's 4runner. It's one of the strongest as it has a cast iron bearing plate sandwiched in between the two aluminum trans cases. Typically has the transfer linkage on the transfer case itself instead of in the tail stock.

Used a bell housing adapter from Northwest Off-road and headers from a early 60's ford falcon. Only fun part was getting the exhaust to clear the clutch slave which is now on the drivers side.
