A/T shifts hard until warm

I know this question has been asked many times here, but there never seems to be a good solid answer.

1994 4runner- The automatic transmission shifts hard until it is warm, circa 3 minutes. Each shift feels like a kick in the pants and will snap your neck pretty hard. Once the transmission is warm it plays nice. Fluid is good, I replaced it and the filter ~400 miles ago, long after the problem started.

I read through some of the links you posted and found a couple of things you should check. 1) make sure the TPS is properly adjusted. 2) There is a shift cable that goes from the transmission to the throttle body, make sure its not sticking or broken and make sure its properly adjusted. When you changed the trans fluid did you use the correct fluid ?.

I did put Dex3 in it when I changed the fluid. We have a lift at work that I can jack my ride up on during my lunch break, I will report back.

Why would the TPS or the shift linkage cause temperature dependent problems?

I am saving this for later:

From: Bryan Tx,
The detent cable that runs from the transmission to the throttle body can cause you all sorts of problems if broken or out of adjustment. Ask me how I know.....
