Bought a BudBuilt Skid plate off CL for $140. I'll let my pictures do the talking heres what I did with it.

By the way - Bud at BudBuilt is a really nice guy. Great customer Service, answered my E-mails and calls everytime. Even though I bought the product used and from a private seller, he sent me all the bolts I needed and 2 stickers to go along with the package for free. Definitely will be ordering a transfer case skid from him later on!

Its a big improvement over the stock skid plate.

 

Yeah. I dont recommend installing this by yourself unless you have 2 floor jacks. I've had a stiff neck since the installation. Had to lay underneath the truck with it on top of me, lift it with my body and wiggle the bolts around for 15-20 minutes with the weight of on top of me. ( i was too impatient to wait for help ) but yeah. this thing is heavy, and because of the angle, it feels heavier when putting it on.

steve - thanks man. I love it, even though getting an oil change done now requires me to pull the skid plate off, which requires me to pull the front bumper off... its a huge hassle now.

lmao yes. My skid plate was bought off norcalsvx. he had a blue ext. cab pick up.

steve - how would I go about getting the filter off? heh the drain plug is still visable from the back side... but the only way to get to the 3vz filter is under the truck

 

what about going through the fenderwell?

it really is an amazing product though. its heavy and hard to move. but when its on, its bullet proof. Im afraid to scratch it... i love opening up the garage to see that purdy piece of steel under my truck lmao

MaK- did you have to remove the bumper to remove the skid to change your oil?

Also, I know you had a TJM and i've got an ARB but was there any way of bolting the skid OVER the bumper? It looks like I can with the ARB, maybe. Can anyone confirm that? I emailed Bud regarding it but I figured another answer is never a bad thing.

 

He no longer has that rig. It really depends on how your bumper attaches to that front crossmember. I would assume there is no need to actually remove the bumper itself, but perhaps just unbolt what needs to be and remove the skid. As an alternative to having to take everything off for a simple oil change, look into an oil filter relocation kit and a Fumoto oil drain plug.
