Classic Car Insurance on Toyota Truck...Anyone???

I was wondering if anyone has successfully gotten classic car insurance on a Toyota 4X4 truck before.

I am considering picking up a newer Tundra that I want to take over a lot of my DD driving duties, as well as I need something that can tow 7-8k lbs comfortably.

I have a 87 Grand National and a 78 Corvette pace car that I have classic insurance on and wanted to possibly downgrade my '88 4Runner from my DD to having classic insurance on it. My company (Hagerty) told me no.

So anyone have classic insurance on a Toy, if so what company.

having classic insurance on a vehicle cannot be limited to the nature of the vehicle. it depends on its age. If you have it on an 87, they can easily put it on an 88. but you can by no means drive the 88' 4runner as a DD on classic insurance. I have a 65 mustang on classic insurance, and thats because its 45 years old and sees less than 5k miles a year.

You would think so, but this unfortunately is not true once you start calling companies and trying to get it implemented. It is completely at the insurers disgression if they will insure you.

I have no intentions of DD the 4Runner still if I can get the classic insurance. I want to pick up a newer Tundra (something that I can tow over 6k with) that I plan to DD. The 4Runner would then find itself in the same usage as the other two as occasional usage.

And FYI, if you go out and buy a 2010 camaro and pay for it outright, you can get classic car insurance for it. I have confirmed this fact through my current insurer Hagerty. They view it simply as limited usage, or exotic. You can do the same with a Ferrari for instance. You just have to conform to the rules of usage the individual company requires.

You have to love insurance companies or agents.

I carry 4 vehicles I was doing a major project on my 87 4Runner. I thought to save some money I would drop the coverage.

The insurance company raised the rates on the other 3 so I paid more for3 vehicles than the 4 go figure.

I had heard of someone getting classic car insurance on a Celica but can`t recall who it was.
