Spare Tire - holding Bracket

Spare Tire - holding Bracket
I've searched all over the internet and cannot find the answer, so I thought I'd ask you helpful folk over here at yotatech.
I lowered my spare tire in my 2000 Toyota Tacoma, but I can't remove the wire from the holding bracket. I tried twisting the metal part that the wire goes into on the other side, tried just squeezing and pulling it out, but can't figure it out.
Don't want to use too much force until I'm sure of what I'm doing.
How do you remove the holding bracket from the Tacoma's spare tire?

Have a flat front left tire. Was going to put the spare on and drive up to Discount Tire.
Just can't get that holding bracket off of the spare.
EDIT: and by wire, I should have said cable. Disconnect the cable from the holding bracket that keeps the spare tire hooked onto the cable.

If it's like the 4Runner, you just tip the bracket vertically when the tire is on the ground, and it's narrow enough to come through the center hub hole. You never disconnect the bracket from the cable.

Make sure the tire is supported and make sure the wire is not taut. The plate attached to end of the wire will hang loose from the rim. You can then shove that plate through the hub hole on the rim. No need to remove that wire from the top of the bracket.
