Removing Original window tinting????
I am in the middle of removing my window tint and i just went out and paid $ 30 dollars for a Heat gun and i am also using some razor blades to remove the tint myself! Is there any other solutions that will work even better, such as: Paint thinner, or Acetone or maybe eve rubbing alcohol??? The crappy, original window tint on my '86 4runner is not coming off as easy as i thought it would!!
Any advice is helpfull!!!!

I am using just razor blades, and i am holding them with a pair of vice grips! my window tint is on the surface of the glass! not inside the glass itself! I also used a heat gun with it but very poor results with that. And i thought acetone might work well???

I'm sure this job is already done, but this may be helpful for someone who is looking to do this task in the future.
This works best on a warm day(for the tint removal but not necessarily for the person removing the tint
). Liberally spray an ammonia based window cleaner on the entire window. While the window is still dripping wet, cover it with a black trash bag. It can be cut so that only one layer of plastic covers the window. Let it sit for 20-30 minutes while the ammonia seeps through and loosens the adhesive holding on the tint.
When you remove the plastic bag you'll have to work quickly. Start scraping with a razor blade to remove the tint. If you do not get all of it up or the adhesive starts to dry, reapply more cleaner and the trash bag and let it sit again.
Removing old tint can be a real pain as it gets brittle and doesn't come off in large pieces so plan for this taking a few hours. My vintage purple tint on my '86 took ~4-5 hours to remove.
Notes: Be careful around defroster lines as they can be cut through rendering your defroster inoperable.
It will get very hot inside the truck and the ammonia does emit some fairly powerful fumes so make sure to leave your doors open while your working in there. Get out if you start feeling weird from either the fumes or the heat.
