Lightbulb trans help 89 4x4 ex cab 22re 5 speed

ok my truck is a 89 yota 4x4 ex cab 22re 5 speed. I had the truck almost a year and first gear and 3rd have popped out of gear since i have owned the truck and now 3rd gear is wasted. i was wondering if there may be a better 5 speed trans and an upgraded trans crossmember? I figered i might as well upgrade while i have the chance and i am gonna be there anyway lol

R series...

If you get a R150, you'll have to find a 22RTE bellhousing to make it work...

If you get a R151, it'll have the BH you need, but jury's out on the crossmember bolting up. EDIT: And the shifter holes lining up.

Downey had a plate that would let the rear trans mount slide. I believe LCE has it now though I'm not sure.

I think after he closed he sold off his idea's... If it was a good idea, it's just a matter of finding the vendor that still makes it.

Assuming you have a W56, they are good trannies IMO, you just might have got one that was abused. Just try to find a decent used one or Marlin sells good rebuilt units but they are a little spendy. I like to use Redline MT90 gear oil in mine.

yeah, pruney's right on it... Just going by stereotype, it's been abused... Heck, most of these trucks are abused.

You either need to lighten up on the right foot, or get some gears b/c your tires are killing your tranny...

For ease, just get a replacement.

For bad***, get yourself an R. A 150 has standard ratios but a chain drive TC. The R151 has the granny gear and geared TC. Good luck finding a R151. They were Turbo 4WD only. 2WD is a 150, so don't ask.

And the thing on the side of the other tranny's a back up sensor... The one you got now should interchange and plug and play with your harness...

Not knowing the EXACT model, don't ask us if the shifters and crossmember will fit.
