so when my truck was stolen last year they ripped out the door panel and broke that board in half..i was looking around for just the door panel but no luck..so what board is that and is there a way i can try and trace the old one onto the new board..????

 

the easier method would be to just buy a new door panel.

But yes you can replace the board.. but i'm not sure if your fabric is glued to it so if it is then that might give you some problems. Just replace it with whatever piece you can find thin enough.. sheet metal, wood, plastic. It should all work fairly well.

If you go with wood though you might want to get treated lumber just incase it gets wet.

 

it has the vinyl type material and that is stuck on there with a black glue type..ive been trying to find a panel bu no luck..but they busted the lock on it so i new door is needed..

I just finished making new door panels for my 4Runner, my door panels were covered in material so i just removed it from the old backing and traced new panels out, cut them out and recovered them with the original material.

 

what kind of material did u use to make the backing??

 

I don`t know what the stuff i used is called, i went to home depot and found it, its about an 1/8'' thick pressed board and it was around 7.00 dollars for a 4x8 sheet.

 

I made new ones too. I ended using 1/4" plywood, and with carpet it's a little too thick. I reused the factory clips but they're not holding too well and I think I'm going to end up having to put in a few screws to hold it in place.

 

1/4'' plywood is to thick and you will need to use some screws to hold it on. It needs to be 1/8'' or a little less. The stock backing is actually thinner than 1/8'' but i could only find 1/8''.

 

The 1/8 stuff is like a cardboard. I replaced the corner of my doors board and then put on the pocket. Also a few fancy shmansy screws.
