Having tranny problems with my 1990 pickup 3vze auto

I bought it just rebuilt engine, and when driving it shifts into each gear hard, same when i put it in reverse or drive from a standstill, any suggestions, could changing the filter help? Does it by any chance have shift censors? Open to anything, just hoping im not gonna be needing a new tranny

great... You would have the H case...

If you're having shifting problems as indicated by your other thread (which needs to be merged) and your 4WD is messed up... There's just too many variables I know to tell you where to start.

Sounds like your line pressure is too high. There is a cable that connects the line pressure regulator to the throttle valve. Make sure this is adjusted properly. It probably was not adjusted when the rebuilt engine went in.

When you open the throttle fully you will notice a small silver barrel shaped object come out of the black sheath on the cable. When adjusted properly, only about 2mm of this barrel should be sticking out (I am going by memory here so someone correct me about the 2mm if I am wrong)

If you rebuilt the top, you most certainly disconected this cable from the throttle valve.

Yea i know theres the throttle cable and then a kick down cable to make the tranny downshift when needed, i dont see how this would effect just regular shifting into reverse and drive, and shifting up the road?

I dont see in any way how not being able to stay in 4 low has anything to do with my automatic tranny shifting hard, ones a tranny and the other is a t-case! Your feel me?

No, they're not separate...

http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=587521

"Features that are unique to the Toyota Chain driven Auto T-case:
A340H model has a 2.66 to 1 low range.
Parking pawl located in transfer case, not in the tranny like most vehicles.
Has it's own pan, valve body, servo, and clutch pack that are fed fluid from the trans pump.
Transfer case is hydraulically actuated, high or low range will not engage without pressurized ATF.
Valvebody is electronically controlled by #4 soleniod, located in small pan below reduction case.
Has two separate fluid cavities, the reduction cavity and the chain drive cavity.
Shares ATF with the tranny *in the reduction unit only* the chain drive has it's own fluid cavity that uses ATF and has traditional drain and fill plugs.
Utilizes planetary gears for reduction."

"Why are vehicles with the Toyota A340H trans/t-case so gutless?
(Compared to their 5 speed counterparts with the same motor). Normally, an auto tranny both consumes power and mutiplies torque. In the case of the A340H, the power consumption is doubled by the addition of the hydraulic transfer case, which is essentially like having another automatic transmission inline."

There is no kickdown cable on the a340 series. That cable directly controls line pressure. The more you open the throttle, the higher the line pressure goes.

Down shift is controlled by the throttle position sensor ( the electronic gizmo with 4 wire sticking out of it)

I can agree with this...

"Shares ATF with the tranny *in the reduction unit only*"

This is also making me think "Low Range"... For his thread about 4WD problems.
