can a 22re/5 speed tow 5000 lbs?
so i finally put my truck up for sale (http://detroit.craigslist.org/mcb/cto/1935319230.html, if you're interested). i've had it for about 8 years and i'm going to miss it. anyways, i put it up on craigslist, and one of the replies i got was an offer to buy it and use it for a farm truck (towing farm equipment around the farm) if it was capable of towing 5000 lbs.
i don't know about towing 5000 lbs at freeway speeds, but since he's talking about just around the farm, i'm thinking it wouldn't have a problem at lower speeds, especially with the use of low gear. any thoughts?
also, i doubt anyone in the detroit area will buy it for a road truck (cuz it's a foreign car)(just let it go), and i don't want to donate it if i don't have to, and i CERTAINLY don't want to send it to a junk yard, so there is definitely something appealing about sending it to a farm upstate to finish the rest of its life! cuz she's got a lot of life left!

Prolly no sweat in low range...
But the farm equipment will have leverage over the Yota, and if a 4Runner will or will not tow it, is about the most broad term I've heard...
It would more than likely stop dead in its tracks at the 1st mud hole of hill.
Maybe unless you welded the diff...
Either way, consider your truck dead... It'll be a farm implement if dude buys it, and it will be treated as such. Trust me.
I'd love to drop a set of 5:71's in my stock lift, stock tire size, 84

The 22R isn't anemic, it's just 2.4 liters...
And the truck is not sold as a 1 ton. So (IIRC) take the GVWR and subtract that by the... Awe, heck. I forgot how to do it...
Oh, wait... GVWR - Curb weight, and what's left over is what the truck's rated at...
I THINK that's it.

Trust me, when I put it on the scale before moving and it hit 4700+ lbs with me in it....
5k is easy to hit with two kids, wife, dog and tools/gear and a full tank of gas!

If they are just going to pull loaded hay wagons or side unload grain trailers I don`t see what the big deal would be .
I do it all the time. I just wouldn`t want to stop from 70 mph.

would i tell someone else it can tow 5000lbs if it got the truck out of the yard, yes
lol, but realistically if its just for the farm hell be fine, the second he get stuck or goes over 25mph forget it

well, there's 2 big problems driving the price down and still making it difficult to sell. 1. the rust. 2. it's in detroit, michigan. "we don't take kindly to YOUR type (foreign cars) round these parts!"
