Ok so yesterday i bought the retrofit kit to charge my AC

the guy at the parts store helped me out but im pretty sure reading through some other posts we did it wrong.

i put the fitting on the connector on the top side of the compressor...was that correct or should it have gone on the left side fitting?

when i had the freon going in the system the gauge was reading in the red the entire time....


it did get a little cooler but it still aint right,

search didnt help at all, so if anyone knows the answer! help!

You want to charge any a/c system from the low side (low presure side), it sounds like you were connected to the high presure side, that`s why your gauge was probably in the red.

 

...i was thinking the same thing.

but he sounded sure he knew it went on that side...

would that also be the reason it didnt want to take much of the r134?

 

The low side will have a bigger hose. Low side has a blue cap, high side has red cap.

 

You should really vac system down before the change.You were going in on the high side,which probably was freezing up the compressor.Go in through the other fitting by the firewall.You also need to get the fan clutch to engage {rev up engine}So you get the condensor exchanging heat{that will get pressure down}.With the low cost of r12 nowdays,honestly,thats what I would put in it.You can get two cans off ebay for $50 or so,and it works better than 134 for the old style condensers.I did one 134 conversion in my life.It blew ice cold for 30 min before the compressor locked up.I know I did something wrong,but that was my last conversion.

 

I tried to switch the connections around but it would not fit on the other side so it must of been right. I added another can bc the AC got hot So I'm assuming it has a leak?

if I do have a leak what is an avg cost for a shop to check?

Also the gauge barely went out the green this time. It went into the yellow then dropped down into the green once the engine reved a little
