Looking for an exhaust for my hunting rig and need the absolute quietest that will fit under my 87 4Runner (22RE, auto trans). Suggestions?

i used a 2.5 inch muffler from carquest for hunting season. i think it was for a inline six ford application, it was super quiet. though i think a stock muffler would be your best bet.

yup stock muffler = quietest. but you shouldn't be trolling around the woods in a truck scaring off the deer anyway.

would that be considered trail kill not to be confused with road kill?

using a 22re not to be confused with .22 cal ???

Thanks for the welcome.

Is it worth buying a stock type muffler online or cheaper locally with shipping and all?

I would think you;d be able to find something similar local say at like an autozone or something. just tell them your looking for a stock replacement that is similar to the tube thats already on it.

I like my Dynomax super turbo muffler I bought off of Jegs. I think it was about $50 shipped. It's not loud at all, it just sounds a little better than my old stock junk.

i bet stock would be the quietest, but maybe iyou can try running a pipe with maybe 2 or 3 stock mufflers on it so its extra quiet...it may rob some hp mpg and torque, and just be more sluggish...but itll be quiet...

my truck is cut off at the cat, and is pretty quiet at trail rpm (700-1000) but once you open it up it screams!!

I'll second that

I bought one from a local parts store after mu stocker rusted out, and it sounded pretty much stock with it

Later replaced it with a Pacesetter muffler and removed the cat at the same time; that was definitely a little louder, but it sounded damn good

Loosen up a couple exhaust manifold nuts and it'll sound perfect. Saves money on a new muffler

anything that's not a straight-through glass pack style muffler should help keep the sound down. also might try adding a resonator on there after your muffler to help dampen sound even more.

maybe it's because i got a header and no cat, but my thrush turbo isn't quiet at all.
