NEW FJ40 Owner with some questions

Alright well this is my first post and i just picked up a 72 fj40 about a month ago. I was a previous owner of some samurai's but wanted something a little different. I picked it up for 3700 and it has a 350 swap in it with the 3 speed on the floor. The whole rear tub is solid steel some one spent a lot of time welding this thing up. All original fenders, hood, dash, basically the whole front end. I came with an old 8000lb geared warn wench. Since i have got it i have loved working on it, so much that i have sandblasted the whole entire thing and ripped out all of the wiring. It is in a million pieces right now and cant wait to drive this thing around.
I do have one question about putting headers on it. Can you do it with the stearing box right on the inside of the drivers side wheel well. Anyone have any luck with this.
Also sorry for posting something on someone else thread but i could not find where to post my own.

1 this is a 7 year old thread

2 this is a 96-04 4runner/pickup thread

3 might get better help in the correct forum section

4 don't be surprised if a mod deletes your question for being in the wrong section.

5 the correct forum is on here just got to look for it, but here you go I will be nice since it's your first post and you have a sweet truck. Early Land Cruisers

Most guys run "rams horn" manifolds. Not sure what headers will work, they will have to sit pretty tight to the block especially with the stock steering box. Put saginaw power steering in while you are at it.

I just mounted the old ones back on with new gaskets. As i was browsing online i saw some really odd headers that go way out around everything than back in, im assuming these are custom headers any ideas?
as for a new question... My fj has a 350 swap in it. I gutted all of the wiring and hooked the battery directly to the starter pigtailed to the alternator, and brought a lead to the ignition switch. From the ignition switch i brought the correct lead to the coil and the start lead to the starter. The other lead off of the coil went to ground. For fj40's there is no resistor block, but it seems like there is one for a 350... any ideas?

Your in the right section now.

Landcruisers had resistor blocks for points ignition to keep from burning out the points. It allowed 12 volts for starting and about 8 for running. If you have points in your distributer you may need a resistor but if its electronic ignition you should be fine.

Alright i got fed up not knowing if i burnt out the ignition coil and i happen to have a msd electronic ignition module sitting around for a chevy 350 so i put that in and got a msd distributor and coil now it runs like a top.
t
Here is another question, i was going to replace my instrument cluster because i don't like the bolt on tack on the stearing wheel column. I did all the math and figured that it was going to cost me like $800 for all new gauges. There are other ways to accomplish this like putting in a different fuel sending unit and what not but 5-8 easy.
So i am going to use the exsisting one for now and just try to make all of the gauges on it work. The only 2 that i am down to is the water temp and engine oil temp. If i get just the stock water temp sensor since i have a chevy 350 engine where should i tap it in to? obviously the radiator would be the easiest, but i also have a threaded nipple on the thermostat cover, or will either work? And for the oil temp sensor i imagine i will need to get the correct one for the gauge assuming that it runs of a certain resistance. Where should I tap that in, or i should say where is the best place to put it in?

let me know i will be posting pics up soon working every day for the last month and a half and its starting to sound and look good!
