Clarification on Oil pan removal...

Before I get yelled at: I DID SEARCH. Some said you can remove the pan by only jacking the motor and trans up and some said you cant. Is there a secret trick like you have to remove the oil pickup before the pan will slide out all the way? This is an 86 22r so any input would be great.

2wd w/o jacking it up:

Remove the crossmember.
Disconnect the idler arm & pull the steerink link down as far as it will go.
Unbolt the stabilizer bar mounts & pull that down as far as it will go.

It's close, but the oil pan can be removed/installed.

Remove the front diff completely. I tried with just dropping it down. Doesn't work.
With the front diff out, you can see all the bolts holding the pan on.
Remove the diff and you can take the oil pan out easily. You can slide the pan back a bit and down. The pickup tube is not attached to the pan, I think. Haha. Sorry it was really late last time I took my pan off. Three or four bolts hold the pickup tube to the block.

Make sure you scrape the block and pan good before re-installing it.

Ok ladies and gents. On an 1986 4wd 22r you can remove the pan by jacking up the motor. U have to unbolt a steering bar and wiggle it around but it will come out.

I just took the 3 bolts off the front diff and let it aim down, then unbolted it and manuevered it out of the way.
I also removed the steering dampener thingy.
Didnt have to jack up the engine.

On mine, I put the jack under the bell housing and jacked up the motor just to get the jack snug, then took the front motor mounts off, jacked up the motor, removed the front steering stabilizer, then removed the oil pan.

You have to get the oil pan down just a little bit, then take the pick up tube off with it still in there then you can maneuver it out.

I changed the rob bearings in my engine this way with the front differential still in.
