I need some starter advice please.

All I get is a click when i turn the ignition. It started out just doing it every now and then, but now its all the time. I beat my starter with a hammer and it starts after that for a while. I am going to replace the starter. I want some advice on what brand to get. Should i go OEM or are there some good quality remans out there?

just rebuild it yourself, all it needs is the contacts and plunger, probably less than $15 in parts from your local auto electric rebuilder. search and you will find out how easy it is. DO yourself a favor and save yourself $100.

ford starters are not as easily rebuilt, you would be wasting your money. I did this already to mine, has held up just fine. pretty common repair as long as the starter is still acutally turning. actually it's the very first repair I did to mine shortly after I bought it.

Is there anywhere I can order the parts I need cheaper than a dealership. Dealership wants 17.00 each for the contacts and 28.00 for the plunger.

Sure:

Usually only need the contacts, just hit the plunger ring with some fine sandpaper and it is good to go.

Well, I just did my first starter repair. I must say, it was not as hard as I though it was going to be. Thanks for all the replies and thanks to 4crawler for fast shipping.
