Good day YT!

Im planning on swapping my blown 3vz (at barely 161,000 without overheating) for a 5vz during this month, and though Ive done impressive amounts of research, i still dont know what kind of body lift do I need to complete the swap. I know I can also place a hood scoop, but im more interested in the lift.

Will cranking the torsion bars do? Some 2" ball joint spacers? Any pictures will be of great help.

Well the reason you would be doing a BODY lift is to make the hood clear the motor.
Vitaly (vital22re) did a 3.4 swap, he did a 1 inch body lift, and i beleive it was enough to ch=lear the motor.

Cranking the t-bars, or bj spacers will lift your entire truck, not just the body, thay dont serve the same purpose as a bodylift.

 

Cranked t-bars nor BJ spacers will lift the body off the frame. The reason you need a <i><b>body</i></b> lift is to give you more clearance between the frame and body. T-bars and BJ's are suspension, which is just creating more ground clearance with the frame.

Body lifts are sold in either a 2" or 3" lift. Either one will do for you. Just find one, compare prices on different sites, and decide which one you want.

cut the supports from center of the hood as some other members did and clears just fine for me.

why would anyone want a freaking body lift..

(i didnt hack mine up this bad, just the center Y part but you get the idea)

 

I wasn't thinking of custom ones. You can even make your own custom one too, some guys have done that.

I found a legit site last time I looked that sells a 2" kit for like $89 and 3" kit for $99. Pretty reasonable if you ask me.

 

Yeah i dont like them at all. But i have to do one to get my 4.3 vortec into my 4runner
I will be getting rid of it asap afterwards though. Its going to take some cutting and hammering on the firewall to make the bellhousing adapter fit. Then i can take it out

I think im gonna go with DropMyTaco's sugestion. I plan on doing a SAS in the future, so wasting money on lift kits isnt really money-wise.

I do have one question. That frame under the hood, what does it do? Wouldnt cutting it affect it, in any way?

 

You get what you pay for. I have learned that lesson over and over in my past.

 

No you would be fine cutting it. It just flexes a little more when you open it.

And ripcord is right, thats why i would go with 4crawlers stuff. I have NEVER heard anything bad about ANY of his products.

 

exactly, im SAS with 4" TG kit front and rear on my 90 ext truck with 37s and no way im going to run a 2" BL. My trucks tall IMO, and adding a 2" BL is retarded when all I had to do is mod the hood. If you cant mod the hood, then you shouldnt be doin this swap. Maybe im not fitted for this website but im more of a faber than bolt on'er

 

Thanks for the suggestion, Taco. I think that's what I'll do. In case it just doesnt work, then I'll add a scoop; maybe like something I saw here from someone. Cant remember who, but the guy added a 3rd gen scoop into his 2nd gen. It really gave the truck that Wild 4Runner feel which made me go nuts!
