Hey guys,

I just picked up an Alpine IDA-X305S which has the full Pandora iPhone integration. Hopefully installing it next weekend after I get a stereo install kit for my dash.

Anyways, I'm hoping to get some ideas about how to make a custom DIY iPhone/iPod docking station for my '99 4runner? I don't want to have to be fumbling around for the USB cable all the time. So no putting in the glovebox either.
I just want to sit down, plop the iPhone down into it's dock and drive away!

Any of you done this? Would you mind posting pics, or advice, or anything to help me and others get started? I'm okay with DIY stuff.

This is what I did. Nice, easy, and simple. It also allows for me to scroll through music while it's still playing instead of having to take it off the dock. The cord also reaches to the back so that the rear passengers can control the iPod if desired.

I like that VSM thing. I'm trying to find a dock that will attach to it, but not having much luck yet.

Still looking for dock ideas though. Not cables hanging out & iphones leaning in an ashtray. No offense, it's just a complete 180 degrees from what I posted that I'm looking for.

 

I want the same thing! I only want it to charge my phone, though. I don't keep music on it. Music is handled by the 30GB iPod (5th gen video -- old school) in the armrest, connected to the USB port on the back of my Pioneer AVH-42000DVD.

Would love to custom-install a stand/charging dock in front of the 4x4 shifter.

Pro-clip has what you're looking for. Here is one but they have several other styles, with pass through connectors, with connectors going to cigaratte lighters, and with connectors that can be hardwired to your electrical system.
