I am new to the toyota world, therefore have some questions. I have an 88 4runner with the 22re, 5 speed. I am looking at buying an 86 parts rig. It has the automatic transmission. As far as the engine and ecu goes what parts will interchange. Namely some of the sensors? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

 

Most all of the parts from the 86 4Runner will swap over to the 88 4Runner, when it comes to the sensors they should all work in the 88 4Runner, but some of the plugs will probably be different so you will need to swap the plugs on the wiring harness.

 

thanks for the reply. i noticed when i looked into replacing my knock sensor the years were from 88 to 92. i know most of the engine parts will swap. some of those sensors are rediculously over priced.
what about the ecu, would they be the same

 

I don`t think the 86 computer can be used in the 88, it has something to do with the injectors being different.
