3rd Gen JL Stealth Box Question ?

I suppose this could go in the electronics section, but it kind of falls into this category as well? I've been trying to find someone who actually has dropped the $5-600.on this box for their third gen, or if someone has checked one out in person? I have a question, does this box protrude into the storage compartment behind the box, or does it just sit flat against the face of it? I can build this thing WAY cheaper than what they're charging for it, and if I could take a look at one a little closer it would be pretty helpful. I'm curious if they utilized all the space behind the box to gain as much air space as possible? Let me know, thanks!

I was about to install one a couple months ago. Still debating about how I want to upgrade my system. From everything I have read, it does not protrude into the storage area. I only wish I had fiberglass skills but since I don't every shop said they couldn't build it for less than the JL box. Hope that helps.

I have the Q-Logic enclosure with a 10" Fosgate Pro sub. It goes into the storage area on the side:

I have the JL Powerwedge 10" in my runner, sounds great. Takes up very little space too. The amp mounts on the back of the sub and makes it easy to just disconnect and move the box if you need the little bit of room it takes up. Best of all, $300 shipped for the amp, sub, box, and wire harness from Crutchfield.

Crutchfield

I am a big stickler when it comes to audio...very picky; I love this setup though. When I bought the runner originally, I sold my Polks Momo's, amp and box from my Z71 and just installed my components...but it just got to me, I missed my bass. I opted for this set up and love it. Let me know if youd like pics and Ill take some and post. Just to give you an idea, it sits up behind my back seat between the fender wells with a tool bag on the other side and my 80 lb lab still has plenty of room back there to movearound and lay on her bed. Dimensions are on the link as well. Take care!

Anyway, here is your answer to your question:

The box ix solid. The only mod I did was to add some Dynamat. People think I have 2 12" or something when they hear the bass. I have a bridged 600 watt amp going to the sub.

Heres a pic of my homemade box. I strapped a 2x4 into the cargo compartment and then screwed through the box into the 2x4. It's pretty solid in there. Sub is a Pioneer shallow mount. Not the greatest sub but it does what I want it to.

JL makes good quality speakers. But the box is just as important as the speaker. It must be sturdy, and held in place real good. If you don't feel comfortable standing up on top of the enclosure, it's probably not very good.

Was wondering about this myself. I just picked up a pre-owned JL stealth sub off ebay for my 3rd gen and it does have a box-shaped portion that sticks squarely into the storage compartment.

It also has a good sized 14mm hex bolt that allows you mount/attach it (optional) to the wheel hump...the bolt screws in from underneath the wheel-well and if choose to use it, you'll need to mark/drill your own hole.

The construction of the box is far beyond what I expected. The thing is literally built like a tank. VERY good quality.
