It goes inside this housing.

There is also a two pin connector that looks like it opens and closes a valve to circulate the freon, is that correct?

 

its the compressor cutoff temp sensor. compressor shuts off when the air coming through the evaporator is cooled to a certain temp.. what that temp is, i don't know.
