jenn_donohoo 1969 fj40 Build-Up Thread

Hi all -

This is my first time posting. I purchased a 1969 FJ40 in February for a great price at auction. This is my first go at anything remotely related to vehicles, but I'm learning as things break...LOL

I've invested about $1,000 to get it running, and have now noticed the tires are dry-rotted. The current tires have the following written on them: Remington load range "C" 6PR; 7.00-15LT tubeless;M-S; Universal Traction - Heavy Duty.

I would like to stick with something closer to the original tires for the vehicle. Are these the best tires to buy? Does anyone have recommendations? I also cannot spend more than $1,000 max.

Thank you so much,

Jenn

i wish i could say, but i buy all of my tires thru a nw vendor--nice looking rig and welcome to the board--i'm sure there will be someone with the answer for you, shortly--
the only thought i might add is that in the country you live in it looks like you might do well to run abit wider tire than the one you have now, but by no means would that be necessary--you have a very capable vehicle just the way it is--

Thanks so much for responding. Are wider tires typically better for crawling over rocks? The majority of the off-roading in this area consists of going over rocky ledges into canyon bottoms and back up.

Just curious, but which tires are your current faves?

Thanks,

Jenn

Nice find man. Looks good and solid. Did you get the top with it? Good luck with it. I am doing an 85 runner now. Probably take me another year or two to get it the way I want it. After that I plan to find an old FJ and build it.

That big gate pusher bumper is not really my taste, I would probably remove it pretty quick.

Thanks for sharing.

nice find, any cancer? GLW your build if you plan on using it daily 35 or 33x12.5 is the max width I'd go with,

Given that she hasn't even logged in since July 2010, I wouldn't figure on a reply guys
