3.4 Clutch w/ 3.0 Flywheel

I have heard of guys using either the 3.0 clutch and flywheel or the 3.4 clutch and flywheel. I, however, have a bit of a problem. I have a 3.4 clutch on order but there was a problem getting the flywheel. Apparently there is only 1 availible in the US and it is in California. I was wondering if anyone knew if my 3.4 clutch will bolt up to my 3.0 flywheel. If it does then I will just have my old flywheel machined.

Thanks.

nope the clutch disc and clutch is bigger on the 3.4 You can order the flywheel from autozone, or check ebay. I'd maybe hit a local junk yard, and just get the factory one resurfaced. Don't forget to use a brand new 3.0 throwout bearing. And lightly grease up the shaft that the throwout bearing rides on. While your at it replace the rear seal, it's a cheap investment.

trade in your old 3.0 flywheel for the core.. =) 60 bucks isn't bad.

Thanks for the quick response. I will try autozone. Auto Value was the only place that I had tried so far. I figured that the clutch was probably larger.

you want that extra gripping power. you'll also have to mod the 3.4 starter, by enlarging one of the holes.... a tad... I forget the exact size, but check the Sticky on

https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f160...ctions-166052/

goes over on the size and which hole is needed to be enlarged.

yep

I ran into the same issue when i got to that part of the swap. the 3.4 pressure plate didn't line up with the dowels on the 3.0 flywheel. i ended up running the 3.0 clutch. It was a shame too because the 3.4 pressure plate looked way stronger and has heavy spring dampeners instead of the rubber ones on the 3.0.

The 3.0 clutch seems to grab just fine, but I havn't gone wheelin yet. so we'll see.

i know this is a little off topic, but i know someone running a super charger in a desert race truck. he has smoked several different clutches. he now runs a factory toyota clutch and replaces the disc every race. he also blows up a trans about ever 4 or 5 races haha.

Went to AutoZone. The flywheel will be here in 2 days. Hopefully I can get the motor into the truck this weekend.

to help getting the trans mated with the engine. run down to your local homedepot and get long bolts that are the same thread size as the tranny bolts. cut the heads off of them, and slot them. You'll be using them as guide pins, and this makes it so much easier. I spent two freaking days trying to get my trans mated with the engine... Once i made some guide pins i had it in about an hour.

transmission jack helps as well.

that was just about the only down fall in my swap. the clutch will last years I'm sure,, and I have access to a lift anytime, so its not that bad. But I'm sure that 3.4 clutch is the best way to go.
