3.4 motor to 3.0 auto tranny - truth or myth?
Can the 3.4 motor be made to work properly with the 3.0 auto tranny?
I keep finding conflicting info and nothing definitive.
Anyone got a link to such a build?
ORS instructions say no but that says with their "kit" too.
Thanks.

Yes it is possible. I had a A340h in my 1992 3.4 swapped rig. The only catch is you need to run a T100 ECU due to the output shaft speed sensor signal (not the vehicle speed sensor).
I will say this, my transmission lasted about 1 year before it could no longer hold the torque in 1st gear. I did swap out to a T100 transmission to cure the tranny slipping.
edit: I did add the supercharger after the A340F was installed, it was off one of my previous swaps I had sold. The 1992 is my 4th 3.4l 4runner but my first auto.

old post bump, but I wanted to clarify if I could.. You only need to use the ECU from the T100? Or do you need the entire wiring harness? If I purchased a motor out of a 4Runner and then the ECU from a 97 T100 would that be compatible?

so i'm putting together a parts list for my 3.4 swap.. so far it's this
3.4 motor with wiring harness attached.
material for the custom crossover pipe
the oil pan and pickup tube from my 3vze
ecu from a 95 or newer t100 (my current transmission is the a340F cuz my 4runner is a 95)
and of course misc wire connectors and jumpers. is that it? am i foregetting anything?

you shouldn't need any extra material for the crossover. When you pull the heat shield off, there will be 2 noticeable lines before and after the flex part. Cut there, and then follow the rest of the sticky thread that explains how to do the crossover.
Oh and get a build thread going!

If you aren't going to use the T100 auto tranny/tcase, you should sell the whole combo for big $$$ and just find another donor for staying manual IMO.
I got 97 auto donor.
Purchased 97 MT ecu and harness.
Using 3.0 5 spd tcase.
Should have no CELs.
