I amnot picturing what you mean by hard plastic end covers. Can you provide a pic, or be more specific?

thanks for the info , i bought 2 new injectors , (not wanting to wait for shipping )I hope they will work with 2 old injectors--expensive ---- the plastic part is on the engine end of the injector --a rubber grommet (or seal) fits over it.

I shipped my injectors here:

Got them cleaned and rebuilt for $23 each including ground shipping back.

Clocklaw... how did you like the injector cleaning service? Sounds like a deal compared $160 each new!

injectors

Im thinking im going to put it back together , its been down due to timing chain eating through the timing chain cover (seems to be a common problem) . I had the head rebuilt , put in new rings and rod bearings , new timing chain and gears , timing chain cover . planning on relocating the fuel filter ---lot of black stuff in the intake --cleaned it pretty good--the truck has been pretty gutless---I hope this helps . It never did burn or lose any oil with 140000 miles . I work on stuff like im stuck on the road---been down about two weeks ---AS

Well, he sent a balance sheet back with the injectors and there was an increase in flow based on his numbers.....but I am not a good case for "did it improve anything" since I never really drove the 4Runner (50 miles) before I pulled the engine. Basically, he replaced everything except for the body itself (the metal "shank" and the hard plastic around the plug) so the o-rings, the screen and plenum cap were all new. They looked like new injectors when I got them back.

I know another guy, a Toyota guy, that is putting together his shop to do this work as well....since he is local to me I look forward to him getting set up.

The part on the end of the injector -- on the extreme tip of the injector is called a Pintle Cap. Check out the image here.

My 22RE stockers are all cracked, and I'm off to the Toyota dealership to try to buy some new Pintle Caps for the injectors, or I'll go to eBay.
