Wierd vibrating/fluttering sound upon acceleration

I have been searching but cant seem to find anyone with symptoms like I am experiencing so here go's.

From first gear through second when accelerating into the gear under 2000 rpms i am getting what sounds like an exhaust leak from the drivers side of the motor. I have tried to listen for it under the hood opening the throttle by hand but can not hear it. It is quite loud in the cab when driving down the road. Almost sounds like a heat shield ratteling or a tire rubbing on something. any ideas? Thanks for any help.

Update: Searched a bit more. I dont think this is a rod knock/rod bearing, or the injectors (hear that as well but they dont bother me), or the charcoal canister. It seriously sounds like something rattling around in the dash or what a mud flat sounds like when it rubs on a tire. stumped.

Have you checked U-joints? Motor mounts? Checked Transmission Fluid Level? They sound far fetched, but may be quick to check. I'm really at a loss for what could be causing it given the listed symptoms.

It happens as well when reving the motor to let the clutch out before the damn things even rolling, but it does not happen when parked, if that helps. I suppose it could be vibration from a broken mount. I will check trans fluid and u-joints today. thanks for the response.

Hey guys, been out of town. I have not had a chance to look around abit more. Because of the frequency of the noise I am starting to think it is a clutch/transfer case/some sort or bearing issue. happens when revving with clutch pressed in, but not in neutral with clutch out.

It is an 89' 4x pickup.

Please do. Now that I think of it it is kind of a buzz. I'm starting to think it is just an exhaust leak, but I can't find any soot on any gaskets.

Its the water pump. It has to be, it is definitely the culpret of where all the noise is coming from and it's vibrating like crazy. Is this a simple fix or do you have to change out pulleys, belts, drain the coolant im assuming? any help would be great, thanks.

Anyone have any idea if this could be my problem? I was going to buy the pump at lunch today, but dont want to throw parts at it if that is not it. Maybe the idler pulley?

A stethescope might help pinpoint if the noise is coming from the WP or maybe a tensioner pulley or something.

Well i dont have a stethescope but, im almost sure the noise is the impeller rubbing on the housing, and one it gets going it starts to run more true (still makes noise but not as bad as start up). I think im just going to bite the bullet and buy it. Going to go sometime right? Thanks for the input Brian.

Had a mechanic look/listen to it. He says it is going to explode soon lol. He says he is very familiar with the 3vze and this noise and one or more of the bucket lifters has collapsed and is banging against the valves (still opening them) when the lobes on the cam hit it. Time for a long block. Anyone in the Las Vegas area want to help me do a swap/consume some miller light/get paid?
