W58 fifth gear into a W56?

Does anyone know if you can put a W58 5th gear set into a W56? Would make for a nice RPM drop for freeway cruising.

Thanks.

I have been pondering if you could find a lower gear for fifth too.
I have to drive my truck a 100 km to my folks place and 330km to the cottage and 360 if I go to my folks place then the cottage (thanks Google maps) and a great deal of that is on expressways and highways. and i wouldn't mind a slightly lower highway rpm I usually cruse around 90 - 105 km/h (55-65mph) on the highway depends if i have to be anywhere. and if i recall correctly the truck is usually doing 2200 - 2700 rpm (but don't quote me)

Shoooot. I do 70MPH on the freeway with 4.30's in the rear and in 5th gear.

I don't think you need a lower 5th, lol.

The 5th gear in a W58 is the exact same as the W55's 5th gear. The ratios in a W58 are offset because of a different input shaft, but they are the same ratios otherwise. Swapping in a 5th gear out of a W58 is the same as taking it out of a W55, which is the same as leaving things as they are in your W56.

Economical and 70mph don't really go together. If you really want to save gas, make the trip at 50 or 55mph, mostly in 5th gear. Yeah, I know, I don't either.
