Tonight, I finally got my headlights adjusted correctly to my liking...

But...I still noticed the left light pattern just looked different that the right...so I pulled the bulbs and sure enough, two different brands of h4 bulbs. I'm sure its only like a 5 or 10W difference but enough to make me want to go ahead and upgrade the bulbs, something I've wanted to do.

So, my question is this...What do yall think the best bulb for your buck out there is? I like the white light, maybe even with a little blue tint but nothing crazy. I'm mainly looking for something with improved visibility and better looks compared to your standard halogens.

I've had Silverstars before on my Z71 and they just burned out fairly quickly, too quick to justify their price tag...and I've seen where many others said the same.

Just lookin' for yall's opinion...

Silverstars are good, not that much better than stock. My last set burned out in 13 months. I went back to stock $7.00 bulbs from NAPA.

 

Did you just get an HID conversion kit? What's the install like as far as difficulty?

Also, did you have any issues with HID and DRL? Seems to be commonly talked about...

 

silverstars provide good light but --do NOT last--.

I freaking cotton-gloved mine, and never touched the glass.
and they both burned out in 14 months, 1 week apart. silverstars get the extra light by making thinner filaments.


my stock bulbs lasted 9 years.

I went back to ordinary bulbs I got at a truck stop.

I wish I could get a set of the original Japan-installed batch that lasted 9 years... those were amazing.

I've had silverstars for a while now with no probs. They're about 50 bones a pop but well worth the visibility factor in my opinion. They give you more distance which is great during a new moon when it's pitch black and the woodland creatures decide they wanna play chicken lol.

 

i got some phillip vision plus like 2yrs ago and they work fine best part is the low beam part is only tinted to appear whiter

I agree with the HID units but for really good ones that will last they are expensive. I have run CIBIE "Z" Beams with halogen H4 bulbs for 27 years and they still work fine.The beam pattern lights up the right side of the road a little more then stock and they do not blind on-coming drivers.

 

Mine cost $200 and are from one of the best fully digital HID providers out there..

oh c'mon now.. I don't blind them, I caress their eyes with light But no, seriously... I've got a lift and have yet been flashed. I've had the privilege of testing the glare when I allowed a buddy and I to swap cars and do a drive by at night. He had a honda civic and did not have any problems with vision. Yes there is glare, but not enough to blind someone. Cheaper kits and older light housings do however cause issues with glare.

 

Jwaldz, where did you get your HID kit from?

80/100W bulbs. 7 something bucks a piece off amazon. the lights noticebly brighter and the pattern seems to be more defined.

They dont draw any huge amount of additional wattage. Ive ran um in my 00 w/o a hitch.

 

I'm not gonna get involved in a flaming war, but please do not go the HID kit route... If you're gonna go HID do a proper retrofit.

If done properly, an HID retro will definitely give you the best results.
