I got a 96 3rz Runner thats leaking PS fluid. My pump went last summer and replaced that. I started seeing oil/PS fluid spots everywhere I park and came to realize is was PS fluid. Im pretty sure it is coming from the hard lines under the PS pump. These lines look just like my rear heater return lines that I also had to replaces becasue of rot. Living in NY doesn't help the matters. I have been searching but havn't came up with much of anything, mostly problems with the Rack, PS cap, leaking pumps.

What Im wondering is if anyone knows of the part number or proper name for this line and where I may be able to find one. I know the stealership would love to help me out but im trying to stay away from them. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah I tried searching for "power steering hard lines" but most online stores I find only have the pump, rack, and PS hose. I havn't found the hard line yet. I think I have found that it is just a PS cooling line, correct me if Im wrong? I did find a web site yotadidly (sp) that has the part I think im looking for I just don't know the proper part number. They don't show a picture

Yes, I have seen those, thats a hose not a steel line. Unless thats a replacement for the rotting steel hard line? Can anyone confirm that? or know the part number for the OEM PS hard line and I can cross reference them.

Yes much better thank you! Its a ton better to have pictures especailly when Toyodiy has a part you think you need and its 400 bucks.

I need part 44420A, now it looks nothing more than what they say it is a, cooling line. The clamps from steel to hose don't look to be high pressure so Im thinking a fuel line hose might suffice?

 

Fuel line is not hydraulic fluid grade hose and can degrade causing damage to teh steering, use Power steering or Transmission hose.

You can buy it by the ft. from most parts stores.

 

Anyone Know where there might be a write up on the replacement of this line part 44420A?

 

Well,

Took about 4 hours to get my skid plate off to try to get at those steering lines (it doesn't pay to have others work on your vehicle.. someone rounded 3 of the 7 skid plate bolts and sheered one off.. what a mess.

I think I got it all salvaged except one hole which I guess I will have to tap or something..

Anyway.. I'm going to the dealer today to check on price of the lines.

Anyone have an opinion on just cutting back the hard line and replacing with a longer power steering hose? basically mine is leaking at that last corner where the part number is listed. 44420A.

Any advise?

I cut just above the first turn and attached stainless tubing to the existing tubing using swaglock fitting and cut the other end near the steering where it was easily accessible. Left the cooling loop attached and didn't even try to remove it. I had to do the same with the lines that run the back seat heater. Those lines rusted and was leaking coolant. Only there I replaced the whole line.

 

Done.. what a PITA..

Once I got the skid plate off it was a little better.. but tight in there trying to get the clamps and hoses off...

Seemed to have fixed the problem, although the peice I cut out doesn't have an obvious hole? Well it hasn't leaked yet so i assume I got it.

Now if I could just solve my hesitation problem!!!
