3VZE ignition timing: non-inductive timing light ok?

Hey folks, I've got a vintage Sears timing light, from a time when they still made the housings of metal instead of plastic.

It's pretty sweet, but it's the non-inductive type that you'd attach to your old-school ignition points terminal. Is it possible to use this to time the 3VZE?

For reference, here's the FSM on tuneups, the distributor's on page 14:

There's a warning there saying that some tachs don't work, and grounding out the IG terminal can hurt the ignitor. Since we've got electronic ignitions with no points, this is probably the spot where you'd hook up your timing light, if you thought it wouldn't harm anything.

Hmm, found an exact pic:

Anyone have experience with this?
