The reason I'm upgrading electrical system is for my sound system. My amp is pulling current draw close to 400amps. So, I'm hoping that my new electrical system will keep voltage strong. The alternator is doing 200amps at idle and 280-290 amps. It ain't cheap!

 

Jeez man. 400 amps? I always feel like I'm missing something. I am totally stoked on the stock stereo system heeh.

 

did u ever try putting in a capacitor or a bac-cap battery

270 amp alternator ?!?!?!?,,, I thought I was stepping in high cotton after "A-dapten" a 160 amp to fit in my 4runner.

I'm curious how your going to get a big enough drive belt off the crankshaft. With the stock belts on my 01 and a 160amp GM alternator the belts start to chirp and squeal a little bit at full load (yes they are VERY tight).

4 kilowatts of power is allot of ask out of those narrow thin drive belts.

you can also have someone rebuild your stock alternator to produce more amps by replacing the wound wire with thicker diameter and more winds and its keeps a stock look but who cares bout that haha

 

Only problem with that is it makes it run REALLY hot because of the power density. Denso alternators are incredibility reliable in stock form, but when rewound to double or more of the original rated output they cannot dissipate the heat and become very short lived.

The best route for high output is the GM CS-144 alternator. Even in its stock form you get 150 amps at 2000 RPM and 90-100 amps at idle (which is full output for the stock alternator at 2000 RPM). They are a bolt in swap for the stock Denso on the 3.4 4runner and Tacoma (just have build or buy a Denso to GM adapter plug $10)

But if you want more than 150 amps get a rewound CS-144 because their much larger case and fan can dissipate the heat.



First time I had to winch myself out of a mud hole after I installed it, I flipped the high idle switch on and noticed a big difference in the winch.

not to mention the gm alternator is more "mud proof" as close to a closed housing as you can probably get.

Just a Question.... Where Did you get that alt!!!! lol. I really Want one. Ill fab up a mount for dual alts and run the stock for the truck and that one for the subs only.

It's not usually recommended to have batteries inside your cab (assuming they aren't closed cells, i can't really tell.) Might want to look into that a little more before you mount two huge ones.

 

Hey Cy. Those are designed to be contained inside the car. Its cool. There all gel insides anyways(I think).

But def dont have to worry about them leaking at all haha.

Well Im already having that problem. And my new amp is on a fedex truck on its way to my house right now. It should be dropping it off in the next 2-3 hours. So A couple more batts is next on my list!!

Get a CS-144 high amp alternator, its the same case as the one I have but wound to handle 250amps, but because the case is much bigger its able to handle the heat and last forever.

Sorry everyone I've been so busy and couldn't finish my stereo build since I started making amp/batteries rack.

As for alternator, I got it from DC Power Engineering. Talk to Robbie.

The batteries are completely sealed. It's totally safe to have them inside of the cabin.
