routing muffler over rear axle

routing exhaust over rear axle
Hey. I'm workin on my exhaust system right now. I have a cherrybomb glasspack right now. Not the straight through, but it's more like a muffler. I'm thinking of getting the straight through one. How much louder would that be? I want it to be loud and have that real growl to it but now too loud. Also I want to go out the back with it. but my stock muffler was gone. So i'm not sure where to go with it. I've seen some guys trucks and it's kinda a wierd shaped piece that fits in there. How do I make that? Can I make it up with pieces from canadian tire, the elbows and stuff? Anyone made their own? Just wondering what pieces you used to get it over the back axle and out of the way. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

i have a 22re in a 1992 4runner. I would get a custom pipe made to go over the back axle but I don't know if I can really afford that right now. That would probably be the best. I'm thinking about some steel flex pipe to go from the muffler to the rear

Thanks. What I ended up doing is just getting some steel flex pipe from Canadian Tire and a pipe to go from that to the rear bumper. The way my muffler is in right now I just went from it over the axle/under the brake line back. Don't know good that is. But I'm gonna redo the whole thing pretty soon and I have an Idea now of what to do. I might go to the Flowmaster 40 too. That might be too loud though. Anyone know how loud the Cherrybomb glasspack is? Thanks

I had a Magnaflow that was a straight thru glasspack type deal. I HATED how loud it was and how bad it droned. The whole truck would vibrate and you could not talk over the drone when pulling up a hill. I cut that out and welded in a FAT muffler I had lying from off a Ford Ranger V6. It made an awesome difference and didn't seem to cut down the flow. It exits behind the driver rear tire and I made it with bends and pipe available from any Pep Boys-like-Auto Parts store. I think one or two came from the ranger, but you shouldn't have a problem with store bought bends if you're handy with a chop saw.
I failed the first time I put it in... I forgot that the leaf springs pivot backwards so far, so I had to cut the tail pipe off and weld in a three inch section to account for that. Don't forget that--It's embarrassing.

Sweet thanks for the pictures. I'm gonna get rid of the flex pipe and do a welded one soon. I'm gonna try and lift the rear end first which will give me some more room between the axle and body. I might go with a flowmaster muffler. Maybe a 50 series or 60 not sure yet. Thanks
