Ac not working. light comes on, but no commpresser engagement

Ac not working. light comes on, but no commpresser engagement
So wasMessing with the AC, the light commMes on, but the clutch never engages. when i put a wire froM the AC clutch to the battery it engages and i get nice cold air.
any ideas?

There is a presure switch in the a/c system, and if the freon level gets to low the a/c won`t come on. It could be other things as well, but low freon is the most common thing that ive seen.
