I need your opinion on this radio/nav unit

My 2004 4Runner needs a radio upgrade.
My research tells me that the Kenwood DNX5140 is probably the way to go but I need someone to tell me that this radio is a bad choice and why.

Thanks!

Umm..OK....

More like I guess you are looking for someone to say they have it and it's the best thing they have installed......did you do the Crutchfield site? I assume you did.

maybe I'm a sissy, but I was always leery about an "all in one" anything...especially stuff that is either readily available in a stand-alone version (GPS) or on the same note, something that is in a constant state of being improved (GPS again).

so, no, I've never seen that model before so I can't give you any opinion other than what I already did.

Good luck and welcome to YOTATECH.

What are you after? The stock look while having GPS capability? Expandability, ie; additional RCA outputs for amps, DVD playback, etc?

I have the Clarion NX409 and I absolutely love it. It works great, looks great, performs amazing, has tons of capabilities, extremely reasonably priced, and it does everything. Ipod control, bluetooth, DVD playback, GPS with 12 million POI's, 3 RCA outputs for amps, RCA's for a backup camera, RCA's for additional expandability for added tv screens. I could go on and on but you can check it out here.

And a picture of mine installed

Like 92 Toy, I am also leery of the "all in one" units but I do like all of the things that they bring to the party in such a compact space. I would like something that at least looks like it belongs there.
It seems like the GPS units struggle the most in all but the best units. I'm looking for something that does everything well.
I found this Ebay unit which is cheaper but I'm guessing that it will be disappointing in performance. SO far I haven't been able to find anyone that has used it enough to know.
The Kenwoods and Clarions get good reviews. I will probably end up going with one of them.

What are you leery about? Mine performs extremely well. You may be better off purchasing a name brand unit. Any double din will look like it belongs there because it does. Your factory space is for a double din. Now, I'm not sure if you don't like all the nice and pretty looking lights but no one sees them until the unit is turned on anyway.
