Speed sensor on 4.3 swap

im reading up and looking at diagrams on my 4.3l engine harness. There is an ecm input from the vss. i amplanning on using the stock tranny/transfer. im curious how other people have overcome this obstacle. im thinkin maybe leaving it out, but im not really sure what kind of impact this will have on performance and efficiency. btw, its a 1989 chevy 4x4 blazer 4.3l 700r4 trans....

89 model engine? Are you sure its not a TBI motor? If so... its probably a mechanical shift transmission.

If its a TBI system w/ a 700r4 mechanical shift transmission you don't need a speed sensor. You can just leave it unplugged or cut it out of the harness. I cut it out of the TBI harness on my JEEP. No problems and I've probably put close to 30k miles since I put the v8 in it...

it is tbi, i'll probably just end up doing that. im pulling the motor out of the blazer this weekend to start the rebuild on it, probably take a few weeks to complete! i've also got a solid axle for it too! i was gonna make it a stock dd w/ a v6, but hell, why not lift it and make it bad ass?!?!?!

If your original toyota engine was a 22re you already have a vss in the back of your speedo instrument cluster. I used this vss for mine. I've heard of guys not using them at all[vss] and I've heard of guys having problems because they didn't use it. Having the engine die for no reason seems to be the most common problem when you don't have one. Also you can buy aftermarket vss's that simply screw onto the speedo cable and have 2 wires coming off for the signal. On the 700r4 I eliminated the electrical lock up for od and went w/ the mechanical kit you can get from painless. Hope this helps!

i have a 4.3 in front of the w58 and toyota tcase... i kept the toyota vss in place and am not running one for the gm _ ecm but i plan on getting one when advanced adapters starts making the design they got when downey went out of business..

taking off from a start isnt a problem at all! my truck has only died once and it was because of the lack of vss.. the truck seems to have a sweet spot with rpm and when you put in the clutch it might die or it might not.. i solve this problem by just tapping the throttle right after i put the clutch in and have not had a problem yet and havent even thrown a code for the vss since ive been doing this
