Having an issue like this with our subaru. If you shift it in neutral when it seems like it's going to cut off, will it keep the engine running?

My first check would be vacuum lines (specifically to the brake booster).

I would also check the brake booster vacuum lines. On our subaru, I found no issues with a vacuum leak, but the problem seems to be a selanoid inside the transmission that's not going into neutral when coming to an abrupt stop.

Start the truck and let it idle.....stab the brakes several times and see if the engine stumbles or dies.....that will test to see if the booster is leaking.

Sounds like a wire shorting against something or your COR (circuit open relay) relay is not making good contact in the socket or is going bad. Those relays can be a problem since our trucks are getting old. Sounds like you are in for a bitch of a time finding that one.

If that doesn't fix it I would be looking to the AFM. It controls your fuel pump and air/fuel mixture. If you snap the throttle back, the door in the AFM is shutting and may be causing the fuel pump and COR relay to shut off.
