Toyo MT vs Cooper STT

Its time to buy new rubber for my 4runner. I am currently running 285/75/16 MTR's on a SS TRD/ LC80 lift. I am looking for a MT that is decent on the street with siping for wet and snowy weather. I have it narrowed down to the Cooper STT and Toyo MT's in a 285/75 or 305/70. They are basicly the same price. Just wondering your input, have you run these tires and how did you like them and would you buy them again. Would the 305/70s rub with the stock 16x7 3 spoke wheels?

i have around 40k on my 285 stt's, and there's still around 25%+ tread left.

never had a toyo.

hmm, i wonder how many miles the those two types are rated for?

My friend has a set of toyo mts on his suburban and a 383 stroker under the hood. His tires have held up admirably compared to my swamper radials tsl's. Havent had any experiance with the coopers.

Just was checking out some Toyo MT's today... I decided that they were going to be my next tire. Very heavy duty sidewall, great tread pattern, etc. Toyo's are made in Japan, right?

I have the STT's in the 285 flavor and love them..Best tires I have owned..
Smooth and quiet on the road and grip like hell off road..I have over 30,000 miles on mine and still have allot of tread left...Highly recommend..

I had the STT's before. Loved them. They stayed balanced, rode nice, and performed very well off road.

I think you'll be happy with the Toyo's too, however.

Personally, I'm getting KM2's this time around.

Both seem to have a good reputation. When I was in at the tire shop a couple of months ago I was told that Toyo had recently changed their rubber compound and that the new style wasn't wearing as well as the old. I have done nothing to verify or disprove this. Just what I was told.

I had the MT's on my 98 Dodge...They did amazing in all conditions. I'd get them again if I was going for an MT but right now I don't see me getting that much use out of them so its AT for me...

I lived in spokane, wa with them and over the winter, also did a drive from spokane to vancouver BC and I did get a flat on the way back...but someones u-joint clip punctured the tire...it was fixed soon as I got to a tire store.

I did get stuck a few times in em but that was more of it being a Dodge not a Toyota...

Well I finally picked up a new set of tires last week. I went with the Cooper STT's in a 285/75/16 on the stock wheels. Initial impressions are great, it rides butter smooth and much queiter than the MTR's.....but again its a brand new tire. The tire looks really nice and like it will perform great off road. We had some rain over the weekend and they spin less than the MTR's. I hope to go off roading next weekend and will post my results. I will make it a point to report back after 6months and a year with tread wear and more impressions.

Well I have been running these for about a month now and running into problems. The tires arent round!!! Two of the tires are out of round and when cause bad steering wheel shake, esspecially at highway speeds, the steering feels very floaty and unstable. So I swapped the fronts to the rear, and now the steering is smooth but I feel it in the seat. I have gone back to the tire shop 3-4 times now and they have balanced them the best they could, but because they werent one of thier standard tire lines I am SOL. I have to check into Cooper's warranty and see what they can do.

But in short I am not happy, should have got the Toyo Mt's, they were nearly the same price!!

Just do toyo mt's they are rated for 40,000 miles and if you keep up on rotations you can get more out of them. Im a schwabbie i would know, they have a softer tread than cooper and grip surfaces alot better. Im a bfg guy but thats just my two cents on toyos.

Honestly, having dealt with both, you really can't go wrong either way. The coopers will dig a little better, but the toyo's will wear a little longer. In all other aspects they're about exactly the same. I'd personally recommend picking whichever one is cheaper
